Back to Reality

Hello again! I need to get better at this blogging thing...I forgot that I started it. haha. oops! I'm so excited to see that I have 5 followers!! You may not think that is a lot, but 5 is better than the 0 that I expected haha
Anyway...

For those of you that don't know, I am a teacher and it is that time of year again. My days of being a lazy bum and having all day to take care of whatever needs to be done is over. For Texas, this means that I will not be learning how to cook anymore and it's back to just him. He prefers this actually, though, since I'm always buying the wrong food or cooking things the wrong way. Haha. I'll just stick to cleaning, and be thankful for having such a helpful husband.

I am starting in a new class and new grades this year. I am moving from the high school to 3rd-5th grade and am SUPER excited!! I've been wanting the younger kids since I graduated, although, I have to admit that I will miss my high school kids a lot. I'm getting some anxiousness about starting in a new environment, which is normal, but I know that it's going to be great. The 1st-2nd grade deaf ed. teacher is going to help me. It'll be great to have another teacher there to bounce ideas off of. We have to do signing choir this year, too, which I haven't ever done. If you don't know, signing choir is a choir of kids that are taught to sign songs. At Christmas, they wear white gloves and preform at local businesses. I know that the kids love it, but it is going to be more work. I'm really thankful to have such great coworkers to help me with it and guide me. That is the best part...I'd be freaking out if it weren't for them. I love my job and it is very rewarding! :) BUT, having said that, I will still be counting down the weeks until Thanksgiving and Christmas break. HA HA.

Texas is doing great at his news job. He has been there for about 15 months now, and his stories get better each time I watch him. (If you want to see some of his stories check out KETK 56 news.) He came home one day this week and had filmed a story about an animal shelter, which he hates doing. He wanted to bring home the dogs and rescue them..:/ Too bad we don't have a place for them. I guess that is just part of his job though-reporting the good and bad news. I'm so glad that he really likes what he does. At first it was so weird whenever I would hear him on TV, but I'm starting to get use to it :)

Texas has joined Ducks Unlimited in the last month or two and is really getting involved in it. This week he went to the DU banquet. He didn't win anything, but he had a good time working booths & having some beverages. I think it is hilarious that he is becoming more "country", since four years ago, he swore he'd never live in Longview and made fun of me for being country. NOW, he has jumped on the East Texas Bandwagon and is going full force. :) He is killing snakes, trimming bushes, involved in Ducks Unlimited... It's so cute! I give him a hard time, but am really glad that he is fitting in so well here and really liking it.

Not much else to report as of now...Goodnight to my 5 followers :) Have a great week!

My first blog

Hello everyone!!I have never done one of these, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I am wanting to write this blog about our new life as a married couple and about our lives.

My name is Whitney and am 25 years old. I currently live, and grew up, in Longview, TX. I have taught the high school Deaf Education class for the last three years, but am starting in the 3rd-5th class in the upcoming school year. For those of you that don't know, that means that I teach English, Math, etc. to deaf/hard of hearing students in sign language AND spoken english. My husband's name is Texas Reardon and is 27 years old. He grew up in Austin, but he moved to Longview two years ago to be with me. He works for KETK channel 56 news, where he produces and films the stories that happen in Longview.

We met at Stephen F. Austin State University while we were both going to school. We started dating in September 2004 and were "off and on" until 2007. We officially got together for good in the spring of 2008, and were engaged by December of 2008. Eighteen months later we said, "I do."

Texas and I got married on June 12th, 2010 at the Bride's Chapel and Event Hall in Longview. Our wedding was amazing, and we are so blessed to have such supportive friends and family. For our honeymoon, we went to Barcelona for two days to adjust to our jet-lag before getting on a Mediterranian cruise to Italy and France. We saw so many amazing places and fascinating history. It is just mind-boggling to see artifacts that old and to stand where people from history stood. After ten days of bliss, we came back with a wonderful new reality that we are now married!! I spent the next week changing my name and completing lots of paperwork to officially be Mrs. Whitney Reardon. :)

Since the honeymoon, I have been trying to do some home improvement projects while being out for the summer. I touched up and painted the trim around the kitchen, and, today, Deana and I put together our nice new island for our kitchen. It is beautiful! (Ikea is now one of my new favorite stores..BTW!) I would really love to buy a new house right now, but we are not quite ready for that. In about a year, we will have saved enough money for a nice down-payment and be more stable. In the meantime, I will continue my little house "projects" and live in our cute and cozy starter house. I will be sure to keep you posted on how things are going with all of that.

While I have been working on some house projects, Texas has helped with the everyday activities. He is a fantastic husband and I am so lucky. I got exactly what I always wanted! He cooks, cleans, does laundry, runs errands, etc. I couldn't ask for anyone better. I just had to say that, so you know he is helping me.... and brag a little bit about how lucky I am. :)

I will keep you updated on our newlywed life, so keep reading!! :)
